Develops community-guided heritage trails and family homestays around cultural and natural heritage sites, where local guides tell their own stories and host families earn directly. Visitors stay longer and spend more, and heritage is protected by those who live beside it.
Visitors to heritage sites in southern Zimbabwe often come for a few hours and leave, because there is little to do or stay for beyond the site itself and no trained local guides or safe, tested homestays.
Zimbabwe’s international arrivals passed 750,000 in the first half of 2024, but the benefit is concentrated around a few large destinations. Trails and homestays spread visitor spending to lesser-visited communities.
Three community-run trails, 40 tested homestays and 30 certified local guides, and a record of visitor numbers and host income.
Community guides, host families, craft makers and food producers near heritage sites: 40 hosts and 30 guides.
